Ramblin’ On

[I published this originally with all of the links properly inserted, only to find that
Blogger was screwed up again and I don’t feel like going through all the rigamarole again]

There’s an unusual consistency of opinion in this thread, at least when I last read it: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=15&entry_id=2834

I dreamed I was on the arm of Gregory Peck who looked more like Viggo Mortensen than himself. We were in the country, but in a city. We were running from someone, then I was hiding in a tunnel by myself. Hey, what the hell happened to Greg?????!!!!!

I wonder if I’m the only one alive who still likes "popcorn" ceilings?

People who talk incessantly about the diet they are on are doomed to losing the weight loss game.

Google News "Bush crash" and find out how many times this mistake has been made. Funny!.
I fucking love this: http://www.castlenews.com/swearingfestival.html

An hour of sounds from my youth: http://www.bayarearadio.org/audio/kabl/kabl_sept-8-1960.shtml If I remember correctly, the movie theater that this station was in eventually became a porn theater, but I may be misremembering.

Comments:
Sept 8, 1960, you were listening to "Midday Masterpieces" on KABL. It was a Thursday...with temps in the 60's. I was across the country, leaving for college in Massachusetts. First time away from my lil upstate NY hometown. First time away from friends I had seen everyday since first grade.

That was a long time ago.

I really don't think the music I am listening to now on your KABL link would appeal to a child of that time. I mean...it is sorta "middle aged" music and I doubt you were middle aged back on Sept 8, 1960. heh heh.

But..what a wonderful place it must have been to grow up in ...San Francisco.

And tonite, Feb 10, 2006, I am in my cabin in the foothills of the Catskill Mtns, listening to a radio program broadcast in Sept 1960 way out west in San Francisco.

Always amazing, these blogs.
Thank you

You're right, I wasn't middle aged in '60. I was just starting my senior year in hs. Finding this site resulted from a conversation we were having about...er...damned if I can remember... Anyway the conversation turned a corner into "Hey, do you remember the name of that pompous-sounding news broadcaster?" I recalled that he had a 3-part name, the first part of which was John and we immediately discounted John Cameron Swayze, since he wasn't local.

My mother often had control of the large, floor-standing radio (which, of course was most fair), thus I was familiar with JKC at KABL. When I was the air wave controller, the radio would either be tuned to KFRC (DonnieBabe/Jim Lange, et al) or KOBY, top 40 allfuckinday long, the same 40 platters.

Btw, I didn't grow up in SF, but rather SF's plainjane stepsister, Oakland, of which Gertrude Stein said, "There is no 'there' there," though she probably said it without the aid of my added punctuation.

Btw2, welcome to Uh...?
